Music, B.M. - Music Education Concentration

The Music Education concentration within the Bachelor of Music degree is designed to provide foundational training and experiences for prospective music teachers, and prepare them to begin graduate studies leading to certification as a public school music educator. The Music program and the University’s School of Education offer a master’s degree (MS) which leads to initial teaching certification in music. The BM in Music Education is designed to work in conjunction with this graduate program.
Students will complete 15 credits in Music Education, drawn by advisement, as outlined in the concentration below:

Curriculum requirements - 120 credits
General education requirements - 43 credits
Music core courses - 62 credits
Music theory - 16 credits
Music history - 12 credits
Applied music lessons (primary instrument) - 8 credits
Ensembles - 8 credits
Students must be enrolled in at least one ensemble each semester. Professional - 16 credits
Other requirements - 0 credits
Note:
1 This course should be taken more than once for a total of 8 credits 2 You must take MUSC 103 twice, plus 6 credits of other ensembles 3 Weekly seminar participation for 6 semesters Music Education concentration - 15 credits
