Program Description

The student enrolled in the Associate in Arts or the Associate in Science degree in the General Studies program may plan a com­pletely individual program leading to the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science de­gree. There are no specific requirements for these Associate degrees in General Studies except a total of 60 semester hours, a 2.0 minimum QPR, and the following course and elective requirements: English 101, Math core, First Year Seminar, 2 additional Univer­sity core courses, and 2 electives from the Humanities, Sciences, or Social Sciences.

In addition, the Associate in Science Degree requires Math 106 and a minimum of 24 se­mester hours in Mathematics and Science.

Learning Outcomes

By completing the program in General Stud­ies, students will:

1) be able to communi­cate effectively in writing so that one may advance professionally and apply to gradu­ate programs;

2) be able to comprehend, analyze, and interpret texts in a variety of disciplines;

3) be able to present orally one’s own thoughts and plans;

4) be able to rec­ognize a problem and devise a plan of ac­tion to solve it;

5) be able to show mastery of several disciplines within an academic area of concentration; and

6) demonstrate an ethical mind-set and exercise professional responsibility in a global context.

Note: An online (or hybrid) program is avail­able for this major, and follows the same re­quirements.
