HONR 255C - Fundamentals of Civic Engagement 3 credit(s)
Prerequisite(s): FYS 101 - Must be completed prior to taking this course. This course will explore themes of democracy, community, and advocacy with the goal of teaching students about the power they possess when they make their voices heard. With course materials and discussions that delve into the history and complexity of civic issues, students will learn about the reciprocal nature and responsibility of citizenship. By identifying the governing issues and social responsibilities that matter most to them and participating in civic engagement activities, students will develop and practice the skills and expertise necessary to supporting their communities. Guest speakers will include local community organizers working towards dismantling systems of oppression.
