COUN 572 - Supporting Self-Regulation Competency 3 Credit(s)
Self-Regulation refers to the conscious and unconscious processes by which people manage their behavior and emotions, control impulses, and strive toward desired goals. The ability to exercise self-regulation is associated with well-being, health, relationship and occupational success. Self-regulation deficits function as transdiagnostice risk factors for clinical issues and mediate much of the association between trauma and functional problems. This course teaches theory and techniques of counseling strategies that support self-regulation. DBT skills and the Attachement Self-Regulation and Competency framework are emphasized. Students will practice using and teaching self-regulation skills.
