PSYC 322 - Theories of Self-Regulation 3 Credit(s)
Self-Regulation is the conscious and unconscious processes by which people manage their behavior and emotions, control impulses, and strive toward desired goals. The ability to exercise self- regulation is associated with well-being, health, and relationship and occupational success. Certain individuals have better self-regulation than others. This course explores how self-regulation shapes, and is shaped by, social relationships; underlying brain mechanisms and developmental pathways; and which interventions can improve people’s self-regulation. This course is partially experiential as students will also learn through practicing strategies in their own lives.
