Prerequisites: CHEM 206 and BIOL 211 or instructor’s permission Toxicology is designed for the student interested in broadening her/his knowledge into the sciences of toxic agents (poisons) and their effect on biological systems and the environment. The course will cover the expansive science of toxicology, and includes important concepts from molecular biology, physiology, and biochemistry to facilitate the understanding of the principles and mechanisms of toxicant action. Students will be introduced to General Principles of Toxicology, Disposition of Toxicants, Non-organ-directed Toxicity, Target Organ Toxicity, Toxic Agents and Applications of Toxicology. The relevance of chemical and biological properties of toxic agents to human health, and the biotransformation reaction of certain chemical agents will be discussed.
