DD 711L - Differential Diagnosis I; Internal Disorders Laboratory 6 Credit(s)
Prerequisites: DX 611 / DX 611L , DX 624 , DX 623 /DX 623L , PA 622 , PH 612 , DI 623 . This lecture and skill laboratory course is designed as an introduction to the skills required to examine and differentially diagnose the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. Selected topics regarding the endocrine and lymphatic system will also be covered. The student will learn the selection of appropriate examination, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which correspond to the patient’s history and complaint. The student will also expand upon their knowledge base from previous courses in medical interviewing, physical examination, and laboratory diagnosis and learn how to select and use diagnostic equipment, diagnostic tests and specific procedures used in the differential diagnosis of internal disorders. Integration of these skills into the comprehensive management of the patient will be emphasized which will allow the student to properly develop the clinical decision-making skills required of a primary care physician.
