Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program
The BSN Program is designed to prepare a graduate nurse for entry-level practice in a variety of healthcare settings, to provide the foundation for graduate education and/or continued education as a life-long learner, and to contribute to quality patient outcomes.
BSN Program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
BSN Program Outcomes are statements that specify what students will know, be able to do, or be able to demonstrate when they have completed the nursing program.
1: Integrate knowledge from nursing, a liberal education, human experience comprehension, scientific literacy, and analytical abilities for clinical judgment in the nursing profession globally. (Domain 1)
2. Deliver safe, comprehensive, and compassionate nursing care across the lifespan to individuals and important others. (Domain 1, 2, 6, 9, 10)
3. Advocate for the health and well-being of vulnerable populations, utilizing leading health indicators, education, health promotion strategies, and population-focused interventions.
4. Engage in scholarly inquiry to deliver effective, innovative, and equitable patient care incorporating the values and preferences of the client and family.
5. Integrate healthcare and professional quality improvement standards and principles to promote a culture of safety.
6. Exhibit strong communication skills to foster therapeutic relationships in the healthcare setting, emphasizing the importance of interprofessional partnerships. (Domains 6, 8)
7. Manage resources within complex healthcare systems to provide safe, quality, and equitable care to diverse populations, considering social determinants factors such as healthcare disparities and access to care. (Domain 3, 7)
8. Utilize information and patient care technology to support innovative inquiry and facilitate evidence-based practice, contributing to improved patient outcomes. (Level 5, Domain 1, 4, 8)
9. Cultivate a strong professional nursing identity by modeling the values, ethics, and legal standards of professional practice. (Domain 9, 10)
10. Demonstrate leadership and management capacity and a commitment to personal health and well-being. (Domains 9,10)
Pre-Nursing Curriculum
Students begin their journey towards a BSN in the Pre-Nursing program. During freshman year, students enroll in general education courses. By February 1st, Pre-Nursing students interested in pursuing a BSN must apply to the School of Nursing. Students admitted to the BSN program will begin core courses in the fall of their sophomore year. New transfer students may be eligible to enter directly into the sophomore year.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program
Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program through the University of Bridgeport School of Nursing (BSN) is highly competitive. In addition to the general requirements listed below, candidates are also expected to have completed a rigorous curriculum of general education, math, and science foundation coursework, as listed in the Program Prerequisites below, to be eligible to apply. Relevant admissions information can be found below for each applicant student type.
Assessment Technologies Institute Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) Examination scores will be used in the evaluation of candidates for the BSN Program.
