EDMM 639 - Topics: African American History 1 Credit(s)
In short, the course aims to critically examine African Americans during the 20th century. We will examine the charismatic leaders of the 20th as well as the everyday ordinary folks who constitute the bottom up masses who struggled over the course of the century to achieve equity within American society. Given the current events that are dominating headlines, which deals with the issue of race, gender and class, this course will ask the following questions: What are the historical roots of inequality? How do we define agency of marginal groups? Is the black freedom struggle ongoing? Have we achieved a post racial society?
